Education: Masters Degree from University of South Florida

I came to Georgia from Florida, joining the outstanding faculty and staff here at Factory Shoals Middle School. I am now beginning my 12th year of teaching, and this is my fifth year at FSMS, teaching PC classes in 6th Grade Science and 6th Grade Language Arts.
My educational degrees include a Master of Arts Degree in Reading and a B.A. Degree in Education from the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, Florida. I am continuously seeking professional development to challenge and empower my students to be competent and competitive in our rapidly changing world.
I have certification to teach Middle School Science, Social Studies, Reading and Language Arts from the Professional Standards Commission of Georgia, as well as Early Childhood K through 5, and Secondary Reading K through 12, and I am Gifted Certified.
I raised my own four wonderful children, who are successful adults now - I am very proud of their individual accomplishments. I have one daughter, who is a neo-natal intensive care nurse in Gainesville Florida, and three sons - one, a District Manager with H & R Block living in Tallahassee, Florida with his young family. My two younger sons are both serving with the U.S. Marine Corps - one is recently back from Afghanistan, whose family lives in San Diego and another son and his wife are stationed in Hawaii, after he returned home from Iraq.
Beyond family, my personal interests include travel, hiking and exploring State and National Parks, kayaking, enjoying nature. I am an avid reader and enjoy learning new things. My husband and I visited the Pacific Northwest and Montana this past summer. I consider myself a life-long learner and value the opportunities presented each day!
I previously taught in Florida for seven years, across the spectrum of elementary, middle school and college levels. I returned from a year of international travel with my dear husband on our 43' sailboat, and am excited to be settled in here in Georgia experiencing the change of seasons beyond the tropics, and resuming my career as a veteran educator!
I have a passion for learning and recognizing the individual strengths of my students, and am thrilled at the prospect of meeting my new students and watching their inquiry skills develop this coming year. I look forward to working together with you as parents and students, and know that as teacher, all of us can make a great team!
